What to include

Instant frames and photo shape — coming in 1.2

Coming in version 1.2, subject to App Store approval; not available in version 1.1. In 1.2, selecting Instant will add retro colour and an automatic white border with a deeper bottom margin. Original will keep the image shape; Square fit will keep the whole image inside a square area without cropping. These controls will follow the editor's All or This photo selection.

Editing originals in Apple Photos

Edit originals in Photos requires Full Access to your photo library and an eligible photo imported from Apple Photos whose source asset is still available. Photos imported from Files or an SD card, or whose Photos originals are no longer available, need a new copy, a file export or sharing instead. With Limited Access, save new copies rather than editing originals.

In the current version 1.1, use Original size with new copies, Files or sharing to retain the photo pixels. Editing originals in version 1.1 does not use the Original size setting.

Coming in version 1.2, subject to App Store approval: original-size reversible JPEG edits, including Instant frames, to eligible still-photo assets in Apple Photos. In 1.2, Edit originals in Photos will apply the finished look and frame to the same still-photo item, with Photos' Revert action available to undo it. Live Photos will need a still-photo copy instead, leaving the original Live Photo and its motion unchanged.

Large framed exports — coming in 1.2

For the version 1.2 framing update, subject to App Store approval, Original size will retain the photo pixels and add the frame around them. The app will reject a framed output over 64 million pixels or 16,384 pixels on either edge, rather than silently shrink it. This can affect some 48MP photos and wide panoramas using Square fit. If an export is too large, return to editing and choose 4000px or smaller before trying again.

Photo processing happens on your device. Please do not email photos or diagnostics unless you want support to receive them.
